TR-steel/K for complicated steel structures

The course TR-stål/K comprising min. 24 class hours is intended for supervisors, inspectors and others who require documented competence for direction, supervision, inspection or quality control at fabrication and erection of steel structures of complicated kind, such as steel bridges, crane runway girders, steel frames with crane loads, steel chimneys, steel masts, wind turbine towers, and similar steel structures with fatigue loading, with extended risk for brittle fracture or with special requirements for corrosion protection. The course, together with a previously attended course TR-steel/N, provide the basis for documented competence for such complicated steel structures normally assigned to workmanship class GB or GA according to the Swedish regulations BSK 07.

This course is a continuation course to the course TR-steel/N for steel structures of normal kind.

The course corresponds to requirements on knowledge about technical regulations and rules for a person responsible for direction, inspection and control of complicated steel structures according to the regulations and rules in PBL, BKR and BSK 07, BRO 2004, VV publ. 2004:10 and BV BRO, as well as SBS Certification Rules D1 and D10.

The courses TR-steel have been planned under the guidance of a committee with representatives of the Swedish National Railway Board, the Organization of Building Contractors in Sweden, the Swedish Association of Inspectors at Local Authorities, MVR, SBS, structural steel contractors, the Swedish Institute of Steel Construction, StBK Stalbyggnadskontroll and the Swedish National Highway Board.

Required Previous Experience

Course participant should have previous knowledge corresponding to requirements for the course TR-steel/N. In order to obtain a certificate TR-steel/K a valid certificate TR-steel/N is required.

Participants

Supervisors, workshop engineers, erection supervisors, inspectors, and those responsible for quality control at fabrication and erection of steel structures, building supervisors, project managers, building inspectors at local authorities and structural steel designers.

Course Material

A course compendium TR-steel/K is included in the course. The compendium is distributed at the start of the course or is mailed before the course.

BRO 2004 and Handbok i rostskyddsmålning, Korrosionsinstitutets bulletin 107, 1999 should be brought to the course by participants.

Additionally, the course literature from the TR-steel/N course should be brought by participants, that is, compendium TR-steel/N, BKR, BSK 07 and the publications Allmänna konstruktionsstål and maskinstål (SMS handbook 1, 1997; out of stock at publisher), Svetsstandard - Personal och procedurer and Svetsstandard - Kvalitet, konstruktion och svetsbeteckningar (MMS handbooks 530 and 531).

Course Program TR-steel/K

The program for TR-steel/K course comprises 24 lecture hours and a final voluntary qualification examination.

The course program consists of the following:

  2. Rules for complicated steel structures  (1 h)
  3. Complicated steel structures - fatigue, brittle fracture, special steels  (3 h)
  4. Crane runway girders, steel frames with crane loading, chimneys, masts, wind turbine towers  (2 h)
  5. Steel bridges - introduction  (1 h)
  6. Structural documentation for steel bridges  (1 h)
  7. Execution of steel bridges according to BRO 2004  (3 h)
  8. Execution of steel bridges according to BV BRO and movable bridges  (1 h)
  9. Corrosion and corrosion protection  (4 h)
10. Application example I: Corrosion protection of a steel-framed roof  (1 h)
11. Inspection of complicated steel structures  (2 h)
12. Application example II: Quality control of fabrication and erection of a railway bridge  (4 h)
13. Review of typical exercises in qualification examination  (1 h)

Qualification Certificate TR-steel/K

At the end of the course TR-steel/K a voluntary examination is arranged. For participants who have passed the examination a Qualification Certificate TR-steel/K is issued by the SBS-MVR-StBK Committee TR-steel. A requisite is that the participant should have a valid certificate TR-steel/N.

Course Fee

Fee for the TR-steel/K course is SEK 9 500 exclusive of VAT. The fee includes a course compendium, lunches and coffee during the course days. Additional cost for a qualification examination TR-steel/K is 2 200 SEK, including a certificate in case requirements are met. Boarding costs are not included.

Application for participation in the course TR-steel/E may be made on this web site www.stbk.se, or by filing an application form (may be ordered from fax +46 8 655 40 30 or from info@stbk.se) not later than one month before start of course.

The number of participants in the course is limited. Priority order according to date of final application in case applications exceed available seats.

Cancellations received after end of application period (one month before start of course) are charged with half the course fee. Cancellations received later than one week before start of course are charged the full course fee. Name of participant may be changed. Course may be cancelled if required number of participants is not received at end of application period.
